Michelle Oldham

Position:

Senior Researcher

What does this mean?

My role is basically carrying out any research that the case managers require. This could be a new case from that day’s BV list, a historic case that needs cracking or finding missing beneficiaries from a contracted case. Sometimes it may be a “second pair of eyes” case review but there is never a dull moment ! I also carry out some family history research for clients and have produced both reports and binders. I have been lucky to work on some interesting families.

How long have you worked for FWL:

I started as a sub contractor in March 2022 and became a full member of the team in November 2022. I work remotely, 3 days a week, from my home in Poynton, Cheshire.

Tell us a bit about you:

I’m married to Clive and have two fantastic children, Jack and Molly. Clive is completely responsible for giving me the genealogy bug many years ago, when it was huge index ledgers and microfilm/microfiche readers! My son, Jack, is a vet, lives with his girlfriend, Cara, Ivy the fox red Labrador and Daphne the cat (a stray kitten brought home from work). Molly is still at school. She plays trumpet in the Stockport Youth Orchestra and enjoys playing hockey and rugby.

The other love of my life is Manchester City. I have been a season ticket holder since 1982, so have experienced a lot of lows and currently the extreme highs! In any other spare time I enjoy researching my own family history. DNA is a fantastic tool and whilst I’m still learning about it, I really enjoy trying to work out where my matches fit in.
