Congrats Lorraine on Your Award!
We’d like to give Lorraine some recognition for her wonderful work on the estate of Phyllis Mayne with this sticker, Superb Stage Name Solver.
Many of our sub-contractors may remember this estate, where the deceased is the child of two actors, Leslie Mayne and Glory Quayle. Diligent work by researchers had uncovered the identity of Glory Quayle relatively early on, but the identity of Leslie Mayne was still unclear. We had all come to the conclusion that it was a stage name.
By virtue of working with both local newspapers and the 1921 census, Lorraine was able to identify a likely birth for Leslie in Dorset. Moreover, this gentleman had gone on to marry and have children under his birth name at a later date. Lorraine provided an address for his son, who then called in and David (beneficiary) was instantaneously able to confirm that his father was indeed, Leslie Mayne, on the stage but also went by various other aliases, aside from being born as Frederick Edward John Slade! He used Godden as a surname and also Karl F. Kerso [sic] when he worked as an illusionist!
Goes to show – teamwork is key. Well done and congratulations
