What does this mean?
I work from home, usually five days a week, doing probate research – I have also been very fortunate to have been able to work on some family history projects! Three evenings a week, I also man FWL’s Live Chat facility. I take any queries and questions from people, usually from those who have received a letter from us and are potential beneficiaries.
How long have you worked for FWL:
Since March 2021.
Tell us a bit about you:
I am originally from the South-East but have been living with my partner, Jason, in Leicestershire for the past 11 years. I’m a big animal lover (particularly dogs!) and I volunteer for a German Shepherd Dog Rescue where I assess dogs, home check people, and deliver dogs to their new homes and owners! Myself and Jason have had three German Shepherds, we sadly lost our last in June of this year but hope to adopt again in the near future.
Genealogy has been my biggest hobby since I was thirteen years old (so twenty years now!). I was home schooled and one of my history projects was to do some research on my family history. From there onwards I was hooked and I continued to research and build my family tree in the years to come. I still work on my own tree when I have spare time and it currently dates back to the late 1300s. One of my biggest achievements was in 2008 when I located my grandfathers birth family (he did not know his father) and was able to reunite him with siblings that he did not know existed. In 2020, I completed and passed an advanced genealogy course with Strathclyde University.
I love history in general – especially naval history and Victorian medicine. I love visiting historic buildings, cemeteries, and antique shopping! I also enjoy poetry (I do write when I have spare time!), gaming, horror, Halloween – all things creepy, chocolate, and cake. I also love cartoons and am a huge SpongeBob fan and collector!
What are your aspirations?
To finally upload of all of my family history onto the computer and have it in some sort of order! At the moment, I have a huge mass of boxes full of scribbled notes and trees that only I can read! I would love to gain another qualification and continue to improve my skills and knowledge of history and genealogy. I’d love to own a historic building of my own some day and live closer to my family with a pack of rescued dogs.
